Hoge Mote: accessibility label A

copyright Pieter De Kersgieter

The experience centre ‘Hoge Mote’ received the quality label for accessible tourism, level A, from Tourism Flanders on October 15, 2019.

Of course, we are very proud of this! After all, the label offers a certain guarantee.

Quality at a glance

A specially created label committee, with representatives from the disability movement and from the tourism sector, ultimately decide which label will be awarded to a building or which conditions still need to be fulfilled first. The results appear on the website www.toevla.be.

Label A means that Tourism Flanders considers the building to be basic accessible. It is accessible for most people with reduced mobility, but may require extra effort or a helper.

Why did the Hoge Mote receive the A label?

  • The tourist reception and experience centre is housed in the 'Hoge Mote', a historic building and protected monument.
  • Information about Ronse and the surrounding area is offered in various forms: digital interactive tables, viewing boxes, listening modules, 3D experience, film screening, wall panels, wall screens and an experience wall.
  • The film screening is available in two languages and is subtitled in four languages.
  • Visual and hearing impairment facilities.
  • The Hoge Mote is accessible via the wide entrance bridge. The bridge and entrance porch have a pavement in flat cobblestones.
  • Barrier-free entrance via wide entrance door. Spacious exhibition area with central reception desk with lowered section and shop.
  • The first floor is accessible by stairs and lift. This lift leads directly to the viewing platform on the second floor.
  • There is a sanitary block, accessible from the inner courtyard, with a spacious well-equipped adapted toilet.
  • The Hoge Mote does not have its own parking facilities. It’s possible to park along the street. Opposite the library, about 100 metres from the Hoge Mote, there is an adapted car park.
  • Clear signage in the area and near the building.
